The Boy Of The Dam

If you are a photographer, you know the feeling when you see something truly special and only have seconds to capture it before the moment is gone forever. It was Thursday night, the famous Dam Square located in the heart of Amsterdam was almost in darkness. I spotted this little boy trying to feed the pigeons. I had been shooting with the 50mm lens all day, I had to get really close and yet make sure the moment was going to remain candid. I made some quick adjustments before getting closer to the scene and took two shots. This is the first one.  By the second one the boy had made eye contact and the moment was gone. This was all about the moment and the composition. Nothing else mattered because, if I had worried about all the other technical aspects, the moment would have been lost forever.
