All You Need Is Light And A Camera. Any Light, Any Camera.
I receive a lot of emails from photographers who are in a creative rut. That happens, it’s part of being an artist. I wrote a few articles about that, here is one that was published on dPS recently: Lost Your Mojo? Ten Tips To Bring Back The Magic. To keep growing as a photographer you need to exercise ‘visual push-ups’ everyday, or as often as you possibly can. You don’t need to go to an exotic location or even leave the comfort of your own home. All you need is light and a camera. Any light, any camera. You can pick any ordinary object and make it look interesting. I do it all the time just for fun. I love to see beauty in ordinary objects. Last saturday I happened upon this stack of old bottles and jars by a window in a farm building converted into an antique store. I love glass and the way light shows all its imperfections. I stopped for a few minutes and took a few shots. Try it, this simple exercise can go a long way in helping those creative juices flow again! When you do street photography do you take any other equipment with you or just you Fuji

The Fuji and its fixed lens is all I’d ever need on the streets!

I only use ambient light, never flash. There may have been some artificial lights in a corner of the building but not where I was, it was actually quite dark in that corner with just a window (my favorite light source!) I pushed the ISO to 2500 for some of the shots.

I also love old glass – did you use Flash here Valerie? There are some strange light reflections, some from a window but one looks like a fluorescent lite (overhead).
