Stories of Hands

If you follow me on social media, you probably noticed that I started a new series in April while traveling in Rome. I started photographing hands. I find hands special. They have character, they convey an emotion. Since then, I’ve photographed hands in Paris, Normandy, Zurich and more.

Here are a few hands photographed in recent weeks. Except for one or two, they were all shot without the subject noticing me. There are many more on my website gallery here. I know I have many more from previous years, I will eventually look through my portfolio and add to the collection. That may take a while 😉

I love the photo of this “half hand” a man is holding behind his back (I think), because it looks so vulnerable.
Funny that you started to post these ones just as I was thinking about applying myself to hands too. Lately I took a photo of an elderly couple holding hands, a universal gesture.
I am looking forward to more of your pictures!

Truly love this series, I cherish a photo I took of my dad not long ago at age 94 holding hands with his childhood friend of the same age.
Holding the boules (?) also the violin player are pretty wonderful. They all are though ☺️

The painter and the accordion! I like the newspaper one as well but need more hands on the hand picture category but the paper goes it a good sense of place!

  Interesting observation! Truth be told, this was the photo that inspired me to start the series. When I shot it, it was all about the sense of place and the Italian paper and elegant suit sleeve were indeed my main interest. That day I started photographing hands holding things at market and I’ve been focussing my attention on hands in busy places ever since 🙂
